1. Howth Head, Co. Dublin
The cliff path around Howth Head gives you sea views, wild gorse and a sense of being miles from the city, while being a short DART ride from it. Go early in the morning or near sunset when the path is quieter, then finish with dinner in the village.
2. Dingle, Co. Kerry
Colourful streets, a busy little harbour and some of the best coastline in the country on the Slea Head Drive. A proposal on the coast road, followed by a celebration in a Dingle pub with music, is hard to beat.
3. Kinsale, Co. Cork
Kinsale's harbour and narrow coloured streets are made for a slow walk. The coastal walk out towards the old fort gives you a view back over the town and water, and plenty of quiet spots along the way.
4. Killarney, Co. Kerry
The lakes, the mountains and the national park mean you can choose your setting: lakeside, on a trail, or somewhere along the jaunting car route. Autumn colours make it especially beautiful.
5. Lahinch, Co. Clare
For couples who love the sea, a walk along Lahinch beach at sunset, with the surfers out and the Atlantic in front of you, is simple and unforgettable. The Cliffs of Moher are close by if you want something more dramatic.
6. The place that's already yours
Some of the best proposals happen somewhere nobody else would think of: the bench where you had your first proper chat, the street where you met, the pub where it all started. If a place already means something to you both, that's your spot.
