New parents get a lot of babygrows, most of which will fit for about three weeks. If you want to give something that lasts as long as the child does, give them the first place their baby ever was.
A birth map poster
A birth map shows the streets around the hospital (the Coombe, the Rotunda, Holles Street, Cork University Maternity Hospital, University Hospital Galway, University Maternity Hospital Limerick) with a small marker on the exact building. Underneath go the baby's full name, the date, and if you know them, the time and the weight.

What to put on it
- A short first line: "Our first girl", "Welcome to the world", "Where you were born".
- The full name, as big as you like.
- Date, time and weight on one line, e.g. 9:32am · 7 lb 6 oz · 10.08.2026.
- The hospital name as the title, or the town if you prefer.
Colours that suit a nursery
Powder Blue, Blossom and Coastal are soft and calm. They sit well beside the light woods and whites most nurseries are painted in. The arch layout frames the map like a window and suits a nursery especially well.

Good for grandparents too
A second copy for the grandparents' house is one of the nicest uses of a birth map. Once you've made the design it's saved, so ordering another size takes a minute.
