Housewarming gift ideas in Ireland: a map of their first home

Getting the keys to a first home in Ireland right now takes years of saving, a lot of viewings and more than a few disappointments. When someone you love finally gets there, the gift should mark how big a deal it is. Another candle won't do that.

A map of the new address

A first-home map poster shows the streets around their new place, with a marker on their front door. Ours can be shaped like a house, with the address and the date they got the keys underneath. It's the first thing a lot of people hang in a new hallway.

What to write

  • "Our first home" or "Home sweet home" as the first line.
  • The address: house number and street, or just the street if they'd rather not share it.
  • The date they got the keys.

Picking a colour for a room you haven't seen

If you don't know the decor yet, Monochrome and Terracotta are safe with almost anything. For a modern house with dark walls, Black & Platinum or Black & Gold look great in a black frame.

Not just first homes

A map of the house someone grew up in is a lovely gift when parents downsize, or for someone who has emigrated. Same idea, different words: "Where it all began", "Home".
